Sacha Lees

From as early as I can remember creating, and art have been my focus.

I have worked as an artist and sculptor commercially in film and print for over 10 years, applying my skills on projects such as   ‘The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy’, and ‘Narnia’, whilst employed at ‘Weta workshop Ltd’.

My skills have also been utilized in print production, an example of this being 'The Lord of the rings’ ‘New Zealand Post’ stamp collection.

My work reflects the influence of the classical realm of portrait painting. The passion in this area having been fuelled during my travels to Italy, where I studied the old Masters and their craft.

My desire is to ensure the portraits I produce are more than merely apicture, rather, I evoke emotion through expression in the subjects face, eyes and hands, while looking to create atmosphere and visual texture within the artwork.

The subjects story is held within the four corners of the canvas. The artwork will not only be enjoyed and have meaning for the client, but will convey a message to others who may view it. I aspire to be New Zealand’s foremost classical portrait painter.

My studio is based in Wellington, New Zealand and it is here that I grow more passionate and inspired about oil painting by the day.
