I had a wonderful opportunity to paint

reknowned international celebrity Chef Peter

Gordon. For those of you who don't know

about this award winning food genius - Peter

is often referred to as Europe's father of

fusion cuisine. He has restaurants in

Auckland and London and a series of

innovative cook books to boot. He is a very

busy hardworking man to say the least, and I

was thrilled to meet him in person and learn

what a thoroughly generous and inspirational

man he really is.

I chose to paint Peter in ‘dine' – his elegent

award-winning signature restaurant.

The dining room created the perfect

backdrop. I love the way the large

illuminated ceiling light sits behind Peter
almost like a halo. An obvious
interpretation of this would be that Peter
Gordon is in fact a cuisine angel!

One of the many skills I believe chefs

require is the ability to manage time and

multiple objects simultaneously. In an

essence, they are required to seamlessly

juggle all the components in order to deliver

the best food on time. To get this idea across

visually I have painted Peter doing just that

– juggling.

The transient food, you may notice is not

from this world. They are in fact fusion

combinations inspired by Peter's recipes and

cuisine style.

From left to right, they are as follows

‘fennelesco' (fennel and radicchio), ‘OJ-beet'

(orange and beetroot), ‘copaya' (coconut

and Papaya), ‘Pearadish' (pear and radish),

and finally a ‘figquat' (fig and kumquat).

I hope that I have managed to capture
Peter's wonderful personality, creative

ability and likeness.

Massey Ferguson

It has been a while since I have

put my hand to water colour -

yet there seemed no better

medium for this commission of

a rusty old Tractor. Much fun

was had relishing in the
detailing of its motor.
