‘Tempus fugit’  (Time flies)

The woman and design of this artwork manifests the 1920’s ‘Art Deco’ genre. Stylistically this time period is another of my favourites.

The mademoiselle is poised with confidence bordering on the side of contemptuousness.

Behind her is a majestic chronograph painted in lustrous gold further confirming the sense of opulence.

‘Downside up’ is a grand artwork embodying the concept of slipping into the unknown as if the rug has been pulled from under your feet – so to speak.

I chose to create this artwork in a large scale format to help the viewer get the sense of falling.

The symbolic butterflies flit around the woman giving the sensation of movement and air.

The artwork is painted in oils.

I have also used a pearl essence effect in the butterfly wings that transforms in the light.
